Shoot for the Moon... Lockheed Martin gets Permission
Lockheed Martin was the recent winner of the $3.9 Billion contract which gives them permission to design and construct the Orion Spacecraft from NASA. It will replace the current Shuttle Fleet. The runners up (but were not granted a contract) were Northrop Grunman and Boeing. This news follows President Bush's massive exploration plan which was promted in January 2004. I think that its an unbelievable mission to create a shuttle to launch wealthy people into outer space. I hope that it all goes well, even though I was rooting for Boeing. Orion's first test flight will be on September of 2014 and flights to the moon will begin in 2019-2020. What do you guys think of this new project and what this ultimately mean for Lockheed Martin?
