Jennifer Aniston's New Endorsement Deal Upsets Lobbyists

With three new movies, a new boyfriend and now a new endorsement deal, Jennifer Aniston is racking in extra money. The product is Smart Water, bottled by Glaceau which recently underwent a major acquisition with Coca-Cola. The endorsement deal has stirred up controversy regarding environmentalists who view bottled water as another "trapping of consumerism junking up the nation's landfills." In response, Food and Water Watch is launching a "QUIT the BOTTLE" campaign. The campaign is already causing a change; restaurants are now starting to serve water from tap instead of bottled. Food and Water Watch concluded that 86% of all used water bottles are discarded rather than recycled. A spokeswomen for the group stated that "consumers are waking up to the myth of bottled water, despite celebrity endorsement." I think that "going green" is a current trend and Coca Cola, being the new leader should follow. A company should always seek the best publicity and if this escalates it could possibly damage the brand (Glaceu/Smart Water). Jennifer Aniston should step up as well to protect her image. Swithing to "green" bottles would do little harm for the company, and doing so may save Coca Cola money. If Smart Water is sold mainly to the educated and wealthy, why not join the trend and become respected by consumers. Even Hollywood Stars are joining in leaving Aniston alone in the Hills. Leonardo DiCaprio produced the short film Water Planet and Sarah Jessica Parker is working to improve tap water regulations.
