Has Media Gone Too Far?

Recently, MSNBC's hit radio personality, Imus made a "racial" statement concerning the Riutgers University girls basketball team. Imus said that the girls (most of whom are African Amarican) were full of tatoos and looked like "nappy-headed hoes". This raised media attention and created an uproar umong political activists such as Rev. Al Sharpton. This is nothing new in the world of radio. Howard Stern (Sirius Satellite Radio) has violated FCC rules by using obsene language and sexist remarks, gay-bashing among Grey's Anatomy cast members and Seinfeld's Kramer drunk racist comments. This raises the ultimate question: has media gone too far? I don't think so. Media was created for this very reason: controversy. Its needed for survival and media admires the attention. People listen to radio shows because they enjoy the different personalities and their perspective on topics in the media. Both Imus and Stern cater to a certain group of people, therefore the message is clear: "if you don't want to hear don't listen." Of course, there is a certain extent; racism, sexism and hatred remarks are unethical but we cannot change anyones opinion and we all are prejudice in our own way. These hosts know right from wrong and mistakes are made to be corrected. I want to hear your thoughts on this one... BLAB ON!

  1. Who does Imus thinks he is, degrading those women like that, it appears that the media in the Us of A can get away with anything, free speech my foot. I am sick of it, the last i heard of this, was that he Imus was to appear on Al Sharpton's radio programme today, i'm sure it was very interesting and heated,i've heard worse and hope that the fcc has a say in this, but again that loud mouth, foul Howard Stern have done more and continues to do now he has shifted to satellite radio. I may not agree with Imus remarks, but i will defend his right to say it
