Falling Into The GAP

Have you ever wondered: what ever happened to the Gap? The once popular clothing store is now a fad. The company owns two successful subsidiaries; Banana Republic and Old Navy. In the 90's, Gap played a major role in teen culture but now that trend has changed. The company has fallen into "the gap." They are now faced with heavy competition with Abercrombie & Fitch and American Eagle. The Gap never seemed to change. Their "Go Red" campaign has continued for months, commercials have been limited, and management is horrible. Ever since their CEO was fired, the company has been through a search of a new one. (Go Red Campaign could be used for stalling until the company is turned around). I think that Gap should slowly remove itself from the industry. There should be no more Gap Men and Women, instead Gap should consist of Baby Gap, Maternity and Kids. Old Navy will focus on teens (vintage look) and Banana Republic for the corporate market. It has been reported here on the street that Nike could be next to take Gap's place. The company is the largest athletic manufacturer, and could be moving into retail soon. I praise Nike for taking a lead against rising competitors like Adidas and Reebok. Nike is looking into openening retail stores near college campuses. By doing this, the company can control all aspects of the distribution. They expect customers to leave stores with stylish footwear and accessories such as fashionable t-shirts, jeans etc. I think Nike should start right away. Its going to work out well, especially near college campuses.
