Bill Gates says TV is Dead

At the Davos World Economic Forum last week in Switzerland, Bill Gates stated that the death of TV will arrive within five years. He's not reffering to the physical television set but the distribution of content (tv shows). This is all being replaced by the internet. For example, you are reading StreetBlabber instead of watching CNBC because we get straight to the point with no commercials. There has been hope for the industry though, the introduction of HDTVs has sky rocketed. Consumers love the enjoyment of a technicaly advanced entertainment at home. Gates stated that "certain things like elections or the Olympics really point out how TV is terrible. You have to wait for the guy to talk about the thing you care about or you miss the event and want to go back and see it." New products such as TiVo, YouTube and the new Slingbox are all solving this ever-lasting problem. I recently discovered Slingbox and was amazed...it allows you to record television shows onto basically any other device like cell phones, computers, blackberries, ipods etc. Content providers are having trouble controlling the illegal distribution of their media. For example, YouTube has faced many lawsuits for providing "stolen content." More people are fleeing to their computers to get waht they want when they want it. Advertising will fall as well... until better internet advertising technology can be developed. I think it will be a benefit to all if we could transfer our entire computer database onto a single flat screen HDTV. Think of downloaded movies from iTunes > transfer to your huge flat screen for the faily to enjoy. Or even watching YouTube in HDTV, reading StreetBlabber on screen, downloading the SuperBowl with no commercials (unless you enjoy them). Life will be great. Apple's iTV will do just that I think. Gates has a point here... TV is dead!
