Microsoft Saves the World with LiveDrive
Following Googl'es announcement of their own online storage device, GDrive, Microsoft plans to step in the way. Its called "LiveDrive", and it will allow consumers to store large amounts of data on Microsoft servers. In a press release today, the company confirmed that LiveDrive will feature 2 gigabytes of storage for a fee. All of these releases may just be an attempt to hipe up the release of Window's Vista (releasing in January of 2007). Google is set to release GDrive some time soon, but they have not yet confirmed it. It'll be interesting to see how these two will go head to head, but the big issue here is consumer TRUST! Who will ultimately win... GDrive or LiveDrive, and will you trust them with your personal data? Leave a comment.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Google has worked hard to build an image of trustworthiness, whereas Microsoft is seen as the face of evil by many techies. Although I personally think both of these perceptions are unfair, I just can't see too many getting on board with LiveDrive.
ReplyDeleteI tend to think Microsoft would be best served continuing to tout and improve their client side apps, which are second to none. They may be coming too late to the game to have much impact on the web service biz.
I think once it gets past the techie early adapters, Microsoft will do fine.
ReplyDeleteThe mass consumer probably does not differentiate the companies by a large amount.
Personally I would trust either with general information.
ie: back ups of my websites.
My personal data stays home.
