Indra Nooyi: CEO Spotlight and an EXCLUSIVE look INside PepsiCo...

Indra Nooyi first had her "big break" in 2000 when she became the backbone of the major aquisition between PepsiCo and Quaker Oats by persuading former chairman, Roger Erinco to go about on what she thought was a great deal (and it proved to be today). It was a major $14 Billion deal, and Nooyi got it done. Later, giving PepsiCo control of Gatorade, evenually dominating the sports drinks market. Indra Nooyi was raised in Chennai, India and is married with two adult daughters. She holds several degrees including a master of public and private management from Yale. In October, Nooyi, 50 will replace Steve Reinemud as PepsiCo's new CEO, making the company the largest in the U.S. to be run by a woman. In the past, Irene Rosenfeld ran PepsiCo's Frito-Lay subsidiary, and later resigned in June for Kraft Foods. Brenda Barnes led Sara Lee and then became chief of PepsiCo North America in the 90's (see the pattern). In 2005, 27% of PepsiCo's corporate officers were women, far above the average 16% according to Catalyst, a major research firm. Today, there are 11 CEO's in the Fortune 500, but there were none in 1994. Shares of PepsiCo have soared this past week, following the news of Indra Nooyi becoming CEO. After the completion of the Quaker Oats deal in August 2001, PepsiCo's stock has risen 44% compared to a 1.6% loss by rival Coca-Cola. Nooyi is well known on the street for doing extensive research before any decision. She serves on the boards of Motorola and the Federal Reserve Bank of NY. Ounce, Nooyi actually spent Christmas holiday learning about a new technology for PepsiCo. She even knew the system almost as well as the technicians themselves. Nooyi joined PepsiCo 12 years ago after working for Erinco, which later became Yum! Brands thanks to her help. When Nooyi became CFO of PepsiCo she was involved in a number of aquisitions, including an extremely popular 1998 purchase of Tropicana for $3.3 Billion making it the top selling juice in the U.S. PepsiCo is growing at an extremely fast pace and may eventually beat down CocaCola. Currently the company leads with Gatorade (aside from the top product: Pepsi cola) with 79% of the market share compared to CocaCola's 19% market share with their Powerade. PepsiCo's Aquafina grabs 15% of the bottled water industry compared to CocaCola's 9% from Dasani. I feel that having Nooyi in the first ever CEO spotlight on StreetBlabber is great because she has an elevated career unlike most CEOs. Aside from the hilarious fact that Nooyi used the middle finger technique in her speech to a graduating class at Columbia... I say, expect to see some great things ahead for PepsiCo with her on board. The soda market is a $68 Billion industry and Indra Nooyi has much to add.

Another thing that's been beneficial for me is to get the word out among friends. You can set up a signature on your email client that contains your name and blog address so everyone who gets an email from you sees your blog address.

Those are the ways I've received more blog traffic. I hope it's helpful.
