Starbucks Imperialism

The nation's largest coffee producer and retailer announced that they have formed an agreement with AmRest, a Polish restaurant chain that operates two hundred units. AmRest is present in Poland, Czech Republich and Hungary. Starbucks also stated that their main goal is to have 40,000 total units worldwide. Could this be imperialism? The whole world will become addicted to coffee and Starbucks will have that advantage. I expect conflict between the existing local cafes and the coffee giant. McDonald's also tried the same method during their early days. The company attempted "total Americanization" in foreign countries but still preserved existing culture. For example, when McDonald's expanded into France they offered wine for a short period of time.

  1. This is just bloody unbelieveable with those coffee producers/retailers,it appears that starbucks is thirsting for more, so that their executives can get ridiculously high wages and their employees chomp change, what a world. I'm just suprised that they have not filtered into the caribbean since we are so much into the american way of life. I guess it's business as usual and employment for hundreds of persons and off course the governments of certain countries wouls give them tax breaks fort whatever reason, i just can't fantom, but its business and the tax payers are left to suffer.
